Consider the analogy of a river. Assume that the river splits into two equal arms when an island is in the middle of the river. Same as if you fill a bucket of water with two hoses rather than just one, it will be twice as easy. Or half as difficult. So, the total resistance, the difficulty presented to the current, in your case, will be half of 1 ohm, since one river arm, or one hose, has a resistance of 1 ohm. The mathematical formula giving the equivalent resistance is $$R_e = \frac {1}{ {\frac{1}{R_1}} + {\frac{1}{R_2}}}$$ which, for $$R_1 = 1 \Omega = R_2$$ returns, as expected, an equivalent resistance of one half ohm. |
