three pole regulator: which way is current flowing?

http://avstop.com/AC/apgeneral/regulation.html

In the three pole regulator on the above webpage, I am not sure if current is running from the negative terminal of the armature to the positive terminal of the armature. The arrows around the coils indicate that the current is coming out of the ground to the positive terminal of the armature.

The direction really doesn't matter, it's just an arbitrary convention.

As it turns out, the actual electrons flow from negative to positive, as indicated in those drawings.

But it could just as well be the other way around, all that's important is that the topology or path doesn't change.
