That's hilarious, I had no idea. :-) I found a circuit in a textbook for making a sawtooth generator out of just a Shockley diode, a resistor and a capacitor, and wanted to try it out. Since there was no Shockley diode, I tried to rig one up using one NPN and one PNP BJT, but it didn't really work.
