Summary

Corrected application of an IRF540 MOSFET to switch a load. Not ideal for fast-switching/PWM as shown.

Description

Revised basic MOSFET switch - simplistic, but works.

This is the corrected reference circuit for https://electronics.stackexchange.com/q/442792/146535 . Unlike the first circuit the MOSFET is on the low-side of the load so VS ≈ 0V and VGS ≈ 12V, well and truly enough to drive the gate.

See https://www.circuitlab.com/circuit/qs4g4dfh3rr7/mosfet-led-strip-switching-wrong-1/ for the incorrect version.

Note that this version doesn't include any gate driver circuit to enhance on/off performance, so it'll probably perform poorly for fast switching.
