A CCCS (Current Controlled Current Source) can be used to simulate the optical coupling between an LED and photodiode.

This circuit is in response to this forum post.

A CCCS in parallel with a photodiode can be used to simulate the connection between an optical transmitter and optical receiver.

Try the DC Sweep, as well as the Time-domain Simulation!
