Hybrid Fuzz Circuit with 2-Band Tone and Treble Boost
Hybrid fuzz circuit with 2-band tone, tone center control, and treble boost. Controls Include: Drive, Gain 1, Treble Boost, Gain 2, Fuzz 1 enable switch, Fuzz 1 symmetry switches, Fuzz 2 enable switch, Fuzz 2 symmetry switches, Bass, Center, Treble, and Volume. The term "Hybrid" refers to two types of diode arrays in the same circuit; one feedback-type (with LEDs) and one shunt-type (with standard silicon diodes). Frequency Range with all controls at 50% is from 30 Hz to 5 kHz. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Example Gains per Frequency with all controls at 50% are; +21.2 dBV @ 100 Hz, +34.4 dBV @ 250 Hz, +22 dBV @ 1 kHz, and +11 dBV @ 2.5 kHz. Bandwidth extends in both directions when controls are set > 50%. Example Gains per Frequency with Treble Boost 100% but all other controls at 50% are; +37 dBV from 250 Hz to 1 kHz, +17.2 dBV @ 10 kHz, and 0 dBV @ 30 kHz. Maximum possible gain is >= +70 dBV with all controls at 100%. The IC was chosen to ensure clean op-amp operation at all control settings. If overdriven op-amp distortion is desired, in addition to diode clipping, keep IC1 as it and substitute one of the following for IC2. JFET distortion, TL082CP. MOSFET distortion, OPA2156IDR. Tube-like BJT distortion, NJM5532M. [Note: Substitutions will result in higher op-amp noise.] Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 40 mA of current. [Note: Higher supply voltage results in lower op-amp noise.] And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build.
