Summary

High-Gain 2-Stage Discrete MOSFET Fuzz Circuit

Description

RS-Timbre "2SDM Fuzz" circuit. Involves 2 stages of gain for the clean signal and 2 stage of overdriven MOSFETs for the fuzz signal, where the two signal paths are combined at the Volume control. Also, each signal path has its own simple tone-control. The circuit is designed to provide tube-like fuzz. Controls Include: Input Gain, Direct Drive, Input Tone, Direct Gain, Direct Level, Fuzz Drive 1, Fuzz Gain 1, Fuzz Drive 2, Tuzz Tone, Fuzz depth, Fuzz Intensity, Fuzz Gain 2, Fuzz Level, and master Volume. Frequency range between the -3 dBV corners is from 27 Hz to 10 kHz with all controls at 50%, and between the 0 dBV points is from 30.8 Hz to 8.8 kHz, but which extends in both directions with the controls set > 50%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass, with primary emphasis on mids. Maximum gain with all controls at 50% is +39.3 dBV @ 400 Hz, but twice that with all controls at 100%. And there are two power supplies; one battery (shown) for the MOSFETs and a dual-polarity +-9VDC supply (not shown) for the op-amps. If a regulated dual-polarity +-9VDC supply is used, the battery can be omitted so the MOSFETs can be operated from the positive part of the supply. Current requirement for the entire circuit is >= 100 mA. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before soldering.
