Summary

4-Voice Shunt-Type Diode-Fuzz Circuit with 3-Band Tone

Description

4-voice shunt-type diode-fuzz circuit with 3-band Fender-style tone-stack. Controls Include: Input Gain, Drive, Fuzz enable switches (four, separate; one per voice), Fuzz symmetry switches (SSW, set harmonic content of fuzz), Fuzz Depth, High Cut, Bass, Mid, Treble, and Volume. Range above 0 dBV is from 16 Hz to > 25 kHz, with emphasis on mids and highs, and all controls at 50%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Maximum gain = +33.4 dBV @ 630 Hz with all controls at 50%, or +46.3 dBV with Input Gain, Drive, and Volume at 100%, but all other controls at 50%. Fuzz voices are due to different types of diodes; Fuzz 1 from LEDs, Fuzz 2 from standard silicon, Fuzz 3 from germanium, and Fuzz 4 from Schottky. Specified IC is low-noise dual FET-input op-amp IC, ensuring clean operation of the circuit when fuzz is off, during which the circuit works like an Overdrive. With fuzz on, gain is reduced slightly with all controls equal. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply giving +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 20 mA of current. While simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build.
