Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 1" Circuit for Electric Guitar
Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 1" circuit for electric guitar. Controls Include: Gain, Tone, Drive, Fuzz enable switch, Fuzz symmetry switches, Fuzz Depth, and master Volume. The IC, Japanese-made NJM5532M dual op-amp IC, is reported to sound like a 12AU7 dual triode tube when overdriven. The input can be overdriven by a boost or overdrive stomp-box while OA1 can overdrive OA2 depending on the setting of the Tone and Drive controls. The diode array will have little / no discernable effect on gain but will still provide feedback-diode clipping for fuzz in addition to op-amp distortion. For clean op-amp operation at any control settings, substitute with an OPA2134PA dual FET-input op-amp IC, though the tube-like character may be reduced. Frequency Range 13.6 Hz to 19 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 8 Hz to 40 kHz with Gain, Drive, and Volume at 100%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Maximum Gain = +21 dBV @ 2.5 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +38 dBV @ 1.6 kHz with Gain, Drive, and Volume at 100%. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC @ >= 25 mA of current. And while simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build.
