Summary

3-Voice Shunt-Type Diode-Fuzz Circuit with 3-Band Tone

Description

RS-Timbre "Fuzz Maniac II". Original design by Kurtus Richter. Three gain stages, 3-voice fuzz, modified 3-band Fender-style tone-stack, one standard output, and one buffered output. Controls Include: Attenuation 1, Input Gain, Direct Send, Fuzz enable switches (three separate; Warm, Deep, and Normal), Fuzz symmetry switches (six, with 2 positions each), Fuzz Depth, Attenuation 2, Driver Gain, High Trim, Low Trim, Bass, Mid, Treble, Tone Sum, Output Gain, Standard Volume, and Buffer Volume. Maximum Range is from 25 Hz to 25 kHz, emphasis between 63 Hz and 4 kHz, with all controls at 50%, where low -3 dB corner is at 9 Hz and high -3 dB corner is at 30 kHz. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar and 4/5/6-string bass. Maximum Gain = +55 dBV (Vo/Vi = 562) @ 630 Hz with all controls at 50%, or +65 dBV (Vo/Vi = 1778) @ 400 Hz with all Gain controls at 100% but all other controls at 50%. Caution! High-gain Standard Output. Buffered Output is half gain. The ICs were chosen to provide MOSFET distortion when overdriven. For clean Direct signal, substitute OPA2134PA for IC1. For clean operation overall with fuzz off, substitute same for IC1 and IC2. For more tube-like vintage op-amp distortion, substitute NJM5532M for IC2. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 40 mA of current. Though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test it before committing to a soldered build. House in a grounded metal enclosure.
