Description

Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 2" circuit for 6-string electric guitar. Controls Include: Input Gain, Fuzz 1, Drive, Fuzz 2 enable switch, Fuzz 2 symmetry switches, Fuzz 2 Depth, Tone, Output Gain, Notch, and Volume. Fuzz 1 is obtained from a modified Fuzz Face circuit. All else designed by Kurtus Richter. Fuzz 2 is obtained from a shunt-diode array using Schottky diodes. The symmetry switches set the harmonic content of Fuzz 2. The op-amp IC was chosen to ensure clean op-amp operation at any control settings. For overdriven op-amp distortion, substitute as follows. For MOSFET distortion, use OPA2156IDR. For distortion like that of a 12AX7 tube, use an NJM55332M (Japanese version of the NE5532N). However, such substitutions will involve increased noise. Frequency Range is 55 Hz to 15 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 25 Hz to 25 kHz with all but Tone and Notch controls at 100%. Suitable for 6-string guitar. Not recommended for 7/8-string guitar or bass-guitars. Maximum Gain = +20.5 dBV @ 1 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +38 dBV @ 1.6 kHz with all but Tone and Notch controls at 100%. Circuit can be for stomp-box or rackmoutn projects. The battery can be replaced by a regulated single-polarity DC supply providing +9VDC or +12VDC or +15VDC @ >= 50 mA of current. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build.
