Richter Original "Screaming Face-Bender" Fuzz Circuit
Richter Original "Screaming Face-Bender" fuzz circuit for 6-string electric guitar. Based on a combination of highly modified versions of the VOX Tone Bender, the Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face, and the Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer. The original circuits can be seen online at Schematic Heaven. https://schematicheaven.net . This circuit will work like using the three pedals in series. Controls Include: Drive, Tone 1, Gain, Tone 2, Intensity, Tone 3, and Volume. Stage 1 is based on the Tone Bender, using two discrete BJTs. The Fuzz Stage and Boost Stage are based on the central section of an Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer, using a dual JFET-input op-amp IC. And the Output Stage is based on the Fuzz-Face, also using two discrete BJTs. Note: The Tone Bender circuit resembles the Fuzz Face circuit because the Bender was a clone of the Fuzz Face. The specified BJTs and op-amps are well-known substitutes for the originally-specified devices. Frequency Range 40 Hz to 4 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 13 Hz to supersonic with all controls at 100%. Suitable for 6/7-string guitar or 4-string bass (not good for 8-string guitars or 5/6-string bass). Maximum Gain = +23.5 dBV @ 400 Hz with all controls at 50%, or +94 dBV @ 630 Hz with all controls at 100%. Caution! Extremely high-gain when all controls are set > 50%. Note that the 9V battery can be replaced by a regulated single-polarity DC supply providing +9VDC @ <= 60 mA of current. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before final soldering.
