Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 4" Circuit for Electric Guitar
Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 4" circuit for 6-string electric guitar. Controls Include: Drive 1, Gain 1, Fuzz enable switch, Fuzz symmetry switches, Fuzz Depth, Tone, Drive 2, Gain 2, and Volume. IC1 was chosen to ensure clean op-amp operation for the Input Buffer and Output Stage. IC2 was chosen to provide tube-like distortion when overdriven, in addition to the Fuzz. The Fuzz is obtained from a feedback-diode array using Schottky diodes. The Tone control provides flat response when in middle position but cuts bass while boosting treble when turned clockwise but the opposite when turned counterclockwise. This circuit was inspired by the JHS Series 3 Fuzz circuit though modifications were so extensive that it became a completely different circuit. Frequency Range is 78 Hz to 15 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 30 Hz to 40 kHz with all but the Tone control at 100%. Suitable for 6-string electric guitar. [Not recommended for 7/8-string guitar or bass-guitars.] Maximum Gain = +24.7 dBV @ 1 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +53.6 dBV with all but the Tone control at 100%. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 50 mA of current. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before soldering.
