Description

Richter Original "Distorto-Fuzz" circuit with treble boost. Controls Include: Input Gain, Fuzz enable switch, Fuzz symmetry switches, Fuzz Depth, Passive Treble Boost, Passive Trim, Tone Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble, Stack Sum, Active Treble Boost, and Volume. IC1 chosen to ensure clean op-amp operation at any control settings for the Input and Tone stages. IC2 chosen to provide tube-like distortion when overdriven. Fuzz provided by Schottky diodes in a shunt-type array. Note: The symmetry switches (SSw) set the harmonic content of the fuzz. All circuitry original to Kurtus Richter but meant to sound similar to a an MXR Distortion-Plus used in-series with two treble-boosters, diode clipping for fuzz, and a 3-band Fender-style tone-stack. Frequency Range 13 Hz to 2.5 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 8 Hz to 40 kHz with all controls at 100%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Maximum Gain = +30.4 dBV @ 100 Hz with all controls at 50%, or +47 dBV @ 63 Hz with all controls at 100%. Also, with all Treble controls at 100% but all other controls at 50%, the high range is from +20 dBV @ 400 Hz to +12.6 dBV @ 1 kHz to +4 dBV @ 4 kHz, where the high -3 dBV corner is at 6.3 kHz. Normal emphasis is on lows, but Bass, Mid, and other controls can be adjusted to emphasize highs over lows. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 50 mA of current. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Thoroughly breadboard test before committing to a soldered build.
