FuzzODistor: Overdrive with Fuzz & Distortion
SR-Timbre "FuzzODistor" circuit. An overdrive circuit with adjustable direct, fuzz, and distortion signals. Controls Include: Input Gain, Direct Level, Bass, Center, Treble, Fuzz Enable switch, Fuzz symmetry switches, Fuzz Depth, Fuzz Level, Distortion intensity, Distortion Level, Output Gain, and Volume. Tone controls affect only the Fuzz stage, but with Fuzz disabled, that stage performs as a booster with 2-band tone (Center control shifts mid center and does not adjust mid level). Fuzz comes from Schottky diodes in a shunt-type array. Distortion comes from overdriven germanium transistors. The specified IC was chosen to ensure clean operation of the op-amps, regardless of control settings. The circuit's frequency range is from 25 Hz to 5 kHz with all controls at 50%, but which extends in both directions with all controls set > 50%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass, with emphasis on lows. Maximum gains with all controls at 50% are +28 dBV @ 40 Hz, +25 dBV @ 100 Hz, +20 dBV @ 400 Hz, and +14 dBV @ 1 kHz, falling to -3 dBV @ 5 kHz. All gains increase when controls are set > 50%. Circuit can be used for stomp-box or rackmount projects. The battery can be replaced by a regulated single-polarity DC supply providing +9VDC or +12VDC or +15VDC at >= 40 mA of current. And while simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build..
