Preamp with Bass Boost + 3-Voiced Fuzz + 3-Band Tone
Guitar preamp with bass boost, 3-voiced diode fuzz, and 3-band tone. Controls Include: Drive 1, Boost enable switch, Fuzz 1 enable switch (for Boost Fuzz), Boost gain, Boost Fuzz symmetry switches (two, with 2 settings each), Boost Fuzz depth, Bass, Mid, Treble, Tone Gain, Drive 2, Fuzz 2 enable switch (for Hard Fuzz), Hard Fuzz symmetry switches (two, with 2 settings each), Hard Fuzz depth, Fuzz 3 enable switch (for Soft Fuzz), Soft Fuzz symmetry switches (two, with 2 settings each), Soft Fuzz depth, and Volume. Buffer, Boost, and Output stages based on separate designs by Craig Anderton, though highly modified. Tone controls are well-known active James-style circuit. Project concept and all modifications by Kurtus Richter. Range at or above 0 dBV is from 52 Hz to 14 kHz with all controls at 50%. Ideal for 6-string electric guitar in standard tuning. Maximum gain = +12.5 dBV (Vo/Vi = 4.2) with all controls at 50% but no boost and no fuzz, or +31.6 dBV (Vo/Vi = 38) with all controls at 50% and Boost ON, but no fuzz. With all controls at 100%, maximum gain = +60.8 dBV (Vo/Vi = 1096) @ 1.6 kHz with no boost and no fuzz, or +66.8 dBV (Vo/Vi = 2188) @ 1 kHz with Boost ON but no fuzz, yet with all three Fuzz voices ON, this is reduced to +64 dBV (Vo/Vi = 1585). Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 40 mA of current. And while subcircuits are based on proven designs, with the overall circuit simulator verified, treat as experimental. Breadboard test before soldering.
