Summary

Richter Original Experimental 12V-Champ Preamp for Guitar

Description

Richter Original experimental 12-volt Fender Champ circuit. Highly-modified Fender 5E1 Champ guitar amplifier redesigned to operate using a +12-Volt DC power-supply. Both tube types were designed for +12VDC plate and heater supply voltages. Controls Include: Drive, Feedback, Tone, and Volume. The circuit is meant to be used as a preamp. No output transformer and no speaker. Not intended to provide much gain but rather to get a sound similar to the 5E1 Champ. The input can be overdriven by a boost or overdrive stomp-box, and the pentode can be overdriven by the second triode, depending on the setting of the Drive control. This is a completely experimental circuit, though based on the proven Champ design. The frequency response and overall gain must be determined during breadboard testing. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated single-polarity DC supply providing +12VDC @ >= 500 mA of current. Recommend rack-mount implementation with vibration-damping mounts.
