Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 3" Circuit For Guitar
Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 3" circuit for 6-string electric guitar. Controls Include: Gain, Drive, Fuzz enable switch, Fuzz symmetry switches, Fuzz Depth, Bass, Mid-Center, Treble, and Volume. Circuit was originally based on the Electro-Harmonix 1977 "Big Muff Pi" Op-Amp version but so many changes were made that it became an entirely different circuit. Fuzz is obtained from a feedback diode array using Schottky diodes. Op-amp distortion is obtained by overdriving IC2. IC1 was chosen to ensure clean op-amp operation at any control settings for the Input and Gain Stages. IC2 was chosen to provide tube-like overdriven op-amp distortion in addition to the fuzz. Tone is set using a 2-band active James-style tone-control circuit in which a Center control was added, for setting mid-center between 515 Hz and 1.8 kHz. The circuit's overall Frequency Range is 40 Hz to 10 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 30 Hz to 30 kHz with all but the Tone controls at 100%. Suitable for 6-string electric guitar. [Not recommended for 7/8-string guitar or bass-guitars.] Maximum Gain = +24 dBV from 400 Hz to 1 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +50 dBV @ 1 kHz with all but the Tone controls at 100%. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 50 mA of current. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before soldering.
