Richter Original "Deluxe DistorFuzz III" Circuit for Guitar
Richter Original "Deluxe DistorFuzz III" circuit for electric guitar or bass. Controls Include: Input Level, Bass, mid-Center, Treble, Drive, Fuzz 1 enable switch, Fuzz 1 Depth, Intensity, Fuzz 2 enable switch, Fuzz 2 symmetry switches, Fuzz 2 Depth, Gain, and master Volume. Uses discrete JFET input stage, slightly modified passive Baxandall tone controls, discrete BJT driver stage, FET-input op-amp for boost stage, discrete MOSFET for fuzz stage, and FET-input op-amp for Output Stage. High-gain circuit. Each stage can overdrive the next, depending on control settings, for a combination of 3 discrete transistor and 2 op-amp distortion voices. Fuzz has two voices. Fuzz 1 is obtained from a feedback-diode array using standard silicon diodes while Fuzz 2 is obtained from a shunt-type Schottky-diode array in which symmetry switches set the harmonic content of the Fuzz 2 sound. Frequency Range 37 Hz to 32 kHz with all controls at 50%, extending well beyond standard audio limits with all controls at 100%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Maximum Gain = + 23 dBV @ 1 kHz with all controls at 50%, or + 53 dBV @ 1 kHz with all controls at 100%. Shown with a 12V battery. Circuit requires +12VDC @ >= 50 mA. Do not use any other supply voltage. Battery can be replaced by a regulated +12VDC power-supply. Rackmount implementation is recommended. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build. House in a grounded metal enclosure to prevent EMF interference.
