Description

Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 5" circuit for 6-string electric guitar. Controls Include: Input Gain, Drive, Fuzz Gain, Bass, Mid-Center, Treble, and Volume. IC1 was chosen to ensure clean op-amp operation at any control settings for the Input and Output stages. IC2 was chosen to provide tube-like distortion when overdriven. IC3 is a dual MOSFET device with the MOSFETs configured as diodes. It was chosen to give tube-like fuzz. The Schottky diode makes the MOSFET pair asymmetric, to enhance the even-order harmonics in the fuzz and gives softer clipping than would be produced by a standard silicon diode. Frequency Range 48 Hz to 7.6 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 20 Hz to 12 kHz with all but Tone control at 100%. Suitable for 6-string electric guitar. [Not recommended for 7/8-string guitar or bass-guitars.] Maximum Gain = +33.7 dBV @ 630 Hz with all controls at 50%, or +56 dBV with all but Tone control at 100%. Notes: The circuitry involving IC2 is based on a modified Fulltone OCD Overdrive circuit, while that with IC1b is based on a Quad Ltd. active tilt control, and the Tone controls at the Output are a passive version of the James-style 2-band tone-control circuit.
