Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 6" Circuit for Electric Guitar
Richter Original "Tube-Like Fuzz 6" circuit for electric guitar or bass. Controls Include: Low-Trim, Gain, Bass, Mid-Center, Treble, and Volume. IC1 chosen to ensure clean op-amp operation at all controls settings. For overdriven op-amp distortion, consider the following. For MOSFET distortion, besides the fuzz, use an OPA2156IDR for IC1. For distortion similar to that of a 12AX7 tube, use an NJM5532M for IC1. Yet, either such substitute will involve increased noise. The MOSFETs here are configured to work like diodes in a feedback-type of clipping circuit. The associated Schottky diodes cause asymmetry with respect to clipping, which emphasizes even-order harmonics in the fuzz. This circuit is a highly modified version of the Hermida Audio "Zendrive" circuit. Frequency Range 15 Hz to 6.3 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 6.3 Hz to 10 kHz with Gain and Volume at 100% but all other controls 50%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Maximum Gain = +21.7 dBV @ 250 Hz with all controls at 50%, or +30 dBV with Gain and Volume at 100% but all other controls 50%. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 50 mA of current. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before soldering.
