Summary

MOSFET Fuzz Using Two Dual Depletion-Mode MOSFET ICs

Description

MOSFET fuzz circuit using two dual JFET-input op-amps for gain and buffering, and two dual depletion-mode MOSFET ICs for hard-clipping fuzz. Note: Depletion-mode MOSFETs are reported to produce a more tube-like fuzz than enhancement-mode MOSFETs.. Controls Include: Input Attenuation, Input Tone, Drive 1, Gain 1, Drive 2, Gain 2, Fuzz Blend, Output Tone, and Volume. Range above 0 dBV is from 40 Hz to > 20 kHz with all controls at 50%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Emphasizes mids and highs between 250 Hz and 16 kHz. Maximum gain = +32 dBV @ 1 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +70.6 dBV @ 400 kHz with Atten 0 and Blend centered, but all other controls at 100%. Suitable for stomp-box or rack-mount applications. The battery can be replaced by a regulated single-polarity +9V DC power-supply providing >= 30 mA of current. Though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test if before committing to a soldered build. And house in a grounded metal enclosure.
