Summary

Faithful Rendition of Craig Anderton's "Tube Sound Fuzz"

Description

Based on Craig Anderton's "Tube Sound Fuzz" from his book Electronic Projects for Musicians, Amsco Publications, 1980 edition, p 173. This diagram was drawn by Kurtus Richter using CircuitLab's schematic editor and is displayed here without Anderton's permission. Cannot be used for commercial purposes without Anderton's written permission. Diagram is faithful to the original schematic. Operation verified by CircuitLab's Frequency Domain Simulation. A commercial version first appeared as the Way Huge company's "Red Llama" fuzz pedal, but many electronics enthusiasts have built this circuit or mods of it since it appeared in Anderton's book (first copyrighted in 1975). The originally-specified IC was a CD4049 hex inverting buffer IC, which is available these days with part-number CD4049UBCN. The buffers are made using complimentary MOSFETs that produce tube-like fuzz when overdriven.
