Summary

2-Voiced Op-Amp Distortion Circuit with 2 Hard-Clipping Diode-Fuzz Arrays and 4 Op-Amp Stages with Separate Outputs.

Description

2-voiced op-amp distortion circuit with 2 hard-clipping diode-fuzz arrays and 4 op-amp stages with separate outputs. The op-amp voices are from two types of dual op-amp ICs; one JFET and BJT, both chosen for reputations of providing tube-like distortion when overdriven. One op-amp of each device drives the other op-amp in that IC, with the JFET device as the input IC, so the circuit will accept the directly connected signals from a passive guitar. Stage 1 is a unity-gain voltage-follower, so its output has no volume control. Its range is from 63 Hz @ -9 dBV to 16 kHz @ -12 dBV, but 0 dBV (unity) @ 1 kHz. Stage 2 range is from 40 Hz to > 20 kHz. Stage 3 range is from 40 Hz to 4 kHz. Stage 4 range is from 40 Hz to 16 kHz. Thus, the circuit is ideal for 6-string electric guitar in standard tuning. Controls Include: Drive 1, Gain 1, Fuzz 1 enable switch, Fuzz 1 symmetry switches (two, with 2 positions each), Fuzz 1 Depth, Drive 2, Bass, MId, Treble, Gain 2, Drive 3, Stage 3 Volume, Fuzz 2 enable switch, Fuzz 2 symmetry switches (two, with 2 positions each), Fuzz 2 Depth, Stage 4 Tone, and Stage 4 Volume. All of the following gains are with all controls at 50%. Stage 2 max gain = +23 dBV @ 1 kHz. Stage 3 max gain = +24 dBV @ 160 Hz. Stage 4 max gain = +44 dBV @ 250 Hz, or +49 dBV with both Gain controls at 100% but all other controls at 50%. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 25 mA total current. Though verfied by CircuitLab, treat the circuit as experimental in nature.
