Summary

Guitar booster powered by single battery, with simple input tone control and 3-stages of vintage-sounding fuzz circuitry.

Description

Guitar booster powered by single 9V battery, with input tone control and 3-stages of fuzz. Controls include: Input Attenuation, Input Tone switch, Input Tone, Direct Gain, Direct Level, Fuzz Enable switch, Fuzz 1 Drive, Fuzz 1 Gain, Fuzz 1 Treble Boost switch, Fuzz 2 Enable switch, Fuzz 3 Enable switch, Fuzz 3 Gain, Output Gain, and Volume. Suitable for stomp-box or rack-mount installations. The battery can be replaced by a regulated +-9V DC power-supply providing 50 to 100 mA of available current. Though verified, circuit should be viewed as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to soldered build. Fuzz sound is a variable mix of three vintage circuits; Fuzz 1 from a silicon transistor, Fuzz 2 from three asymmetric silicon diodes, and Fuzz 3 from a pair of germanium transistors. The IC is a TL082CP dual JFET-input op-amp IC which can be overdriven to add op-amp distortion. Range is from < 20 to > 20 kHz. Max gain = 18.4 dBV @ 250 Hz with all controls at 50%, or 21.7 dBV with Input and Output Gain controls at 100% but all other controls at 50%. Emphasis is on 6-string guitar frequencies between 63 Hz and 16 kHz.
