Description

Replacement for 1966 Lincoln Rear window safety/Latch part number C3VB-14512-A.

Relay 1: Make/Latch Relay 2: Break/Reset Pin 30: Factory Yellow (12V) Pin 30: Jumper from Relay 1, Pin 87 Pin 86: Factory Red/Blue (Input) Pin 86: Factory Purple (Limit Switch) Pin 85: To Chassis Ground Pin 85: To Chassis Ground Pin 87: Factory Red/White (Load) Pin 87a (Center): Jumper to Relay 1, Pin 86

Step-by-Step Installation Main Power: Connect the factory Yellow wire to Pin 30 of your "Make" relay. This provides the high-current power for the windows.

The Trigger: Connect the factory Red/Blue wire to Pin 86 of the "Make" relay. When you hit the window switch, this "fires" the relay.

The Output: Connect the factory Red/White wire to Pin 87 of the "Make" relay. This sends power to your window safety circuit.

The Latch (Your Yellow Wire): Run a jumper wire from Pin 87 (Output) to Pin 30 of the "Break" relay. Then, run a wire from Pin 87a (Normally Closed) of the "Break" relay back to Pin 86 of the "Make" relay.

Crucial: Place your D3 Diode in this last jumper line, with the stripe (cathode) facing Pin 86. This prevents the window switch from back-feeding the entire output circuit.

The Break: Connect the factory Purple (or Black, depending on the specific year) wire to Pin 86 of the "Break" relay. When this wire gets power, it will pull the internal switch away from Pin 87a, cutting the latch.

Component Recommendations Relays: Use two 40A Waterproof Automotive Relays with sockets.

Diode (D3): Use a 1N4001 or 1N4007. It only handles the relay coil current (very low), so it doesn't need to be huge.

Grounding: The original unit grounded through its metal case. Since modern relays are plastic, you must run a dedicated wire from Pin 85 of both relays to a solid screw on the car's chassis.
