Summary

3-Way Active Crossover with Subwoofer Output

Description

A 3-way active crossover with subwoofer output for guitar or bass. Controls Include: Treble Level, Mid Level, Bass Level, and Sub Level. No gain boosting. No direct out. Splits input signal from 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass into four separate outputs using one high-pass filter, one midrange bandpass filter, one low-pass filter for bass, and another low-pass filter to obtain a subwoofer signal. Note that a 6-string guitar need not use the bass or subwoofer signals (use circuit as a 2-way crossover), but a 7-string guitar can use the bass signal for a subwoofer for the guitar (ignoring the Sub Output), while an 8-string guitar and any bass-guitar can use the Sub Output signal effectively (use circuit as a 4-way crossover). [Hint: While low frequencies require more output power, meaning power-amps with higher RMS ratings, overdoing subwoofer intensity can muddy and/or smother a low-frequency instrument's overall sound.] The power-supply is not shown in the diagram. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 60 mA of current. And while simulator verified, treat the circuit as completely experimental. Breadboard test it before committing to a soldered build.
