Richter Original Treble Boost Circuit with 2-Band Tone
Richter Original Treble Boost circuit featuring 2-band James-style tone-stack with adjustable mid-center. Controls Include: Drive, Bass, Center, Treble, Gain, and Volume. Frequency Range between -3 dBV corners, and using a 1V 1 kHz input signal, is from 25 Hz to 16 kHz with all controls at 50%, or 10 Hz to 100 kHz with Drive, Gain, and Volume at 100% but Tone controls at 50%. Suitable for 6/7/8-string guitar or 4/5/6-string bass. Maximum Gain = +21.2 dBV @ 1.6 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +42 dBV @ 2.5 kHz with Drive, Gain, and Volume at 100% but Tone controls at 50%. Center control adjusts midrange center between 400 Hz and 1.6 kHz as follows. With all other controls at 50%, maximum gain remains a constant +21.2 dBV @ 1.6 kHz at all Center settings, while Cener at 0% gives +18.6 dBV @ 630 Hz and +19.8 dBV @ 2.5 kHz, Center at 50% gives +19.4 dBV @ 630 Hz and +20 dBV @ 2.5 kHz, and Center at 100% gives +24.3 dBV @ 630 Hz and +21.8 dBV @ 2.5 kHz. Note: The Center control significantly influences Bass and Treble. Power-supply not shown. Requires at regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 20 mA of current. The specified IC has an extremely low THD+N rating (0.;00008%). For least op-amp noise, do not substitute with any other op-amps having higher THD+N ratings or lower input impedance. This circuit will accept direct signals from passive or active sources. For best performance, avoid overdriving the Input Stage. And though simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build.
