Basic Guitar Preamp using Dual JFET-Input Op-Amp IC
Basic guitar preamp using a dual JFET-input op-amp IC. Controls Include: Drive, Gain, Tone, and Volume. Maximum gain with all controls at 50% is 19.7 dBV @ 630 Hz. Maximum gain with the Gain control at 100% but all other controls at 50% is 24 dBV @ 630 Hz. Thus, this is a moderate gain design, usable as a preamp/booster, but not as an overdrive. Frequency range is from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, with emphasis on mids. Suitable for 6/7-string guitar or 4-string bass, in standard tuning. Not good for 8-string guitar or 5/6-string bass. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC, at >= 3.5 mA per op-amp (e.g., 10 mA total). Can also be powered unregulated by two 9V batteries, for stomp-box applications.
