This was insanely loud. I tried it on some cheap headphones and it left my ears ringing. I added the resisters after trying it directly, and couldn't tell any difference in the volume. I looked online and people suggested adding a pot and a resistor with a 1:10 ratio on similar circuits, but it didn't seem to make a difference either. I don't hear any difference when turning the knob.
v=i*r -> v/r = i -> 5/11000 = .0045. That seems like it shouldn't be so loud.
