Modified Ibanez "Sonic Distortion" Circuit
Modified Ibanez "Sonic Distortion" circuit. Controls Include: Drive, Tone, Volume, and Gain. Mods are; input BJT upgraded, some part-values changed to reshape response curve, extra diode added to the distortion-generating diode array (to stimulate even-order harmonics), extra gain-stage added at output. The distortion should sound much the same as that of the original pedal except with enhanced overtones and much more gain. Frequency range between low and high -3 dBV corners is from 43 Hz to 20 kHz. Maximum gain = +22 dBV (Vo/Vi = 12.6) @ 1 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +38 dBV (Vo/Vi = 79) @ 2.5 kHz with all but Tone control at 100%. Suitable for 6-string guitar (not for 7/8-string guitar or bass-guitar). Intended to be a stomp-box project, but the battery can be replaced by a regulated single-polarity +9VDC power-supply providing >= 30 mA of current. And while simulator verified, treat the circuit as experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build. And house in a grounded metal enclosure.
