Summary

Extreme Distortion Circuit with 2-Band Tone for Electric Guitar

Description

Extreme distortion circuit for 6-string electric guitar, with 2-band tone and added buffered output. Controls Include: Master Drive, Clean Gain, Clean Level, Distortion Driver Gain, Distortion Drive, Distortion Stage Gain, Distortion Intensity, Bass, Mid-Center, Treble, and Volume. Range above 0 dBV is from 50 Hz to 7.5 kHz with all controls at 50%, and with emphasis on mids. Ideal for 6-string electric guitar in standard tuning. [Not recommended for 7/8-string guitar or bass-guitar.] The low -3 dB corner is at 40 Hz, while the high -3 dB corner is at 10 kHz. Maximum gain = +16.5 dBV (Vo/Vi = 6.7) @ 1 kHz with all controls at 50%, or +51.5 dBV (Vo/Vi = 376) @ 2.5 kHz with all controls at 100%. The Treble control will boost 10 kHz from -3 dBV to +2.7 dBV or cut it to -13.3 dBV. The Bass control will boost 100 Hz from +15.2 dBV to +19.5 dBV or cut it to +6.2 dBV. The Center control does not affect gain but shifts the center of the midrange passband slightly higher or lower in frequency. Power-supply not shown. Requires a regulated dual-polarity DC supply providing +-9VDC or +-12VDC or +-15VDC at >= 60 mA of current. And while simulator verified, treat the circuit at experimental. Breadboard test before committing to a soldered build.
