Infrared Proximity Sensing and Relay Switches

I am creating a simple circuit to initiate a motor or solenoid using a proximity sensor. To do this I have a SPDT relay with the initial state powering a proximity sensor and the off state connected to the motor. However I have no idea what I'm doing with circuits passed basic physics 2 circuits. The goal is to have the proximity sensor be tripped as an object passes it, thus tripping the relay, turning on the motor and turning off the proximity sensor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Mike

How do you turn the motor off?

Hi Mike,

Welcome to CL.

Sorry but you need to provide more info.

:)

" ... a simple circuit to initiate a motor or solenoid ... "

What type of motor? Brushed? Brushless? Stepper? Synchronous? Clockwork? Rubber Band? What voltage? What current or power rating? AC? DC?

What type of solenoid? What voltage? What current or resistance rating? What inductance? AC? DC?

"I have a SPDT relay with the initial state powering a proximity sensor"

What are the voltage and current (or resistance) ratings of the relay coil?

What are the voltage and current ratings of the relay contacts?

What power? AC? DC? Voltage? Available current?

What proximity sensor? What outputs does it have?

Voltage and current ratings of these outputs?

Solid state or mechanically switched?

Normally on or normally off?

Short circuit protected?

Short circuit protection required?

How do you reset it all after it's been triggered?

That should give people enough to go on for now.

In the meanwhile, please see the section on "A design process" in:

I believe I've got it to work. It's a 9V battery with a proximity sensor an Op amp to boost the output voltage and a relay to switch on the motor. Motor turns off with a user operated switch

Well done.

Are you going to try to draw - or even simulate - it in CL?
